Crashworthiness of Additively Manufactured Lattice Reinforced Thin-Walled Tube Hybrid Structures

In this paper, a new hybrid structure of body-centered cubic lattice-filled thin-walled tube is designed, and the specimens one-piece printing split-printing are prepared by laser melting technique. The deformation mode energy absorption characteristics investigated experiments numerical simulations. Under axial compression, printed forms more wrinkles with smaller wavelengths, specific increases 12.14% compared split-printed structure; under transverse does not show separation from lattice, 134.83% structure. It worth noting that designed has 112.60% (580.15%) increase in compression (under compression) to empty tube. effects wall thickness, lattice density, loading rate on crashworthiness were using validated finite element model. This paper provides idea for preparation lightweight high-strength energy-absorbing structures.
